PostPosted: Mon Nov 19, 2012 4:18 pm    Post subject: Western Australia and Big Sharks Reply with quote

Western Australia and the Perth Metropolitan area has experienced an amazing increase in big Shark activity in recent times.
Huge Great White Sharks within metres of shore in populated areas and big Bronze Whalers in Cockburn Sound.
Five fatal Shark attacks within 12 months and a shift in management attitudes amid the tradgedy.
Electronic deterents and satelite tagged White Pointers being monitored around Perth beaches.
Large Sharks now considered as a danger to life and water safety are now subject to a hunt should it so be deemed neccesary by the relevant authorities.
Increase in whale activity closer to shore and measures undertaken to limit both the proffesional and recreational Shark fishery in recent years has seen the local marine environment shift in favour of some very big and dangerous pedators.

Once again we have been reminded of the most important factor in rock fishing being safety. Five lost lives in an angling tragedy from a dangerous and known fatality area.
Eleven deaths in a year from the rocks in New South Wales.
Safety is everyones responsibility and it is common to all fisherman.

Catch up with Wookie and Brad at the Monte Bellos Islands at "Fishing in Western Australia". Fantastic panarama and photography including fishing reports and captures of pelagic and reef species that are of interest to Australia and the world.
An Anzac weekend offshore angling adventure that is truly outstanding and of significance to all fisherfolk and a recovering marine environment .

There is no doubt about what is the most contoversial and unpopular topic in angling and associated water sports in Western Australia right now
The massive fees being imposed on ordinary citizens that was once their birth right is one of the most controversial and far reaching acts of legislation foisted on the fishing ,crabbing, rock lobster, prize fish and abolone fishers in the states history.
The size of the fees is staggering.
A user pays concept that could be applied to any sporting endevour in Australia.A decision of exorbitant proportion on families, pensioners, children and retailers of boating, fishing and tourism related business.
The fees our outrages.
View and add your comment to this new taxation impost at "Postcards from the Ledge " as has our Esperance correspondent "Rusty" and the fantastic annalytical review by Islander and Fly West Charters under Perth Offshore Fishing Reports
Regards
Ross Compe

How many ordinary Australians have to endure this relentless banter from academics regarding the rights of anglers accessing our own coastline.
Recent media exposure regarding Stradroke Isl and previously Fraser Isl are rolled out regularly in an attempt to spearhead further shutdowns in Coastal National Parks and any section of the coastline pressured by self serving minority groups.
Dune damage and access by anglers is minimal and consultation between the Australian Anglers Association and Goverment and its agencies is well documented.
A dissapointment the way the media gives exposure to inexperienced and ill informed spokes persons

Join an angling club affiliated with the Australian Anglers Assn and learn more quicker and smarter.Become involved and compete in regular Club,State and National events.
Contact the State Division or an established club and meet like minded fisherfolk throughout the state and across Australia.
